UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK BUAH GOJI BERRY (LYCIUM BABRBARUM L) TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN BAKTERI STAPYLOCOCCUS AURES DAN STREPTOCOCCUS PYOGENES



Description:
Staphylococcus aureus is a gram-positive bacterium that acts as a normal flora and body pathogen that causes skin infections. Streptococcus pyogenes is a bacterium that colonizes the human throat and skin, developing complex virulence mechanisms against the body's defense system. A common disease caused by this bacteria is pharyngitis. Treatment using natural ingredients is an alternative that can be used to cure disease, one of the medicinal plants that has benefits is Goji berry (Lycium barbarum L). The aim of this research was to determine the antibacterial activity of goji berry extract in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria. This research was carried out using an experimental method with the test material being ethanol extract of goji berries obtained using maceration and evaporation methods. Goji berry extract with varying concentrations was used in the antibacterial activity test for Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes using the well diffusion method on Muller Hilton Agar media, ampicillin antibiotic positive control and 10% DMSO negative control. The research results show that goji berry extract can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria. The research results were tested statistically, the results of the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria were tested with the Kruskal-Wallis test followed by the Mann-Whitney test showing significant differences between each concentration and the results of the Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria were tested with One way Anova followed by the Post Hoc test, namely the Benferroni test which showed the value significance 0.000 or value <0.05. The minimum concentration of extract that can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria is 50% concentration with an average inhibition zone of 24.13 mm and for Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria the 50% concentration is 24.42 mm.
